What to do with a spare water pump

Alternative uses for a spare water pump when boon-docking.

Not wanting a $100 pump just laying around in the bin, I decided to put it to use. Some vinyl tubing, hose clamps, and hose adaptors turned it into an outdoor washing facility or an easy way to fill the fresh water tank from portable containers. I am way too old to hold 35 pounds at chest level for 3-4 minutes.

We carry three collapsible 5-gallon water containers. When not in use they live in the faux spare tire cover. Amazon sells a 30-gallon bladder that would be better IF you have a large flat area in the toad. It's called an AQUATANK2 Water Storage Bladder

Hoses are connected to each side of the pump. One end goes into a stream, lake or portable container. The outlet rinses off the toad or fills the tank. Not shown in the picture is an intake strainer/filter.

The pump is mounted on a piece of wood. As is an off/on switch. The power cables go to the house batteries when filling the fresh water tank and to the toad battery when rising it off.

  1. You might want to install an intake filter to prevent crud in the water from jamming the check valves
